German ambassador Ernst Reichel criticised on Monday the opposition Self-Determination (Vetevendosje) movement for its stance over how Kosovo should be named in international forums, accusing its members of acting like children in kindergartens.

The nationalist movement recently started spraying graffiti in downtown Pristina with the words “Republic of Kosovo” (in original Albanian “Kosova Republikë”) in response to suggestions that the name may not be used in talks with Serbia on regional forums.

Serbia still considers Kosovo a southern province and refuses to recognise its independence. It says Kosovar delegations in regional cooperation gatherings should be referred to as “Kosovo 1244” — a reference to the U.N. Security Council resolution that ended Serbian control of the territory but left its final status unresolved…….

Croatian Former Official to Stand War Crimes Trial

Tomislav Mercep, a Croatian former assistant interior minister, is to stand trial for war crimes on February 10 at Zagreb County Court, the court announced.

The indictment charges Mercep with responsibility for the killing of 43 civilians and the disappearance of three more in autumn and winter 1991.

Among the victims are Mihajlo Zec, his wife Marija and their 12-year-old daughter Aleksandra, who were murdered on the night of December 7, 1991 in a forest near Zagreb.

The murder of the Zec family, who were Serb civilians living in the Croatian capital, is considered by many to be one of the cruelest war crimes committed by Croatian forces.

The family was murdered in cold blood far from the frontline. Aleksandra Zec was shot in the head. The killers were captured and confessed to the crime but they were released due to a procedural mistake and never stood trial.

Some of them advanced in their military careers and were honoured by presidential medal. One became a member of the military’s presidential guard.

Mercep has been charged with personally ordering the unlawful capture, torture and killing of civilians from October 8, 2001 until mid- December of the same year in and around Zagreb and Kutina and Pakrac in central Croatia.

According to the indictment, his police unit illegally captured 52 people, killing 43 of them, while three dissapeared and six survived torture.

After 1991, Mercep was appointed an advisor in the Croatian interior ministry.

Despite independent media reports about war crimes committed by his police unit, he remained at large and was a prominent political figure until recently. He led a political party and influential war veterans’ organisation and even ran for Croatian president in 2000.

He has been in custody since he was arrested on war crimes charges in December 2010.

Due to ill health, he has been in a prison hospital  but an expert has examined him and declared he is fit to stand trial. He will be under medical supervision in court and will have the right to rest after every hour and a half of the trial.

Tomislav Merčep (born 28 September 1952) is a former Croatian politician and paramilitary during the Croatian War of Independence.

A native of Vukovar, Merčep worked as an engineer before joining the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in 1990. He then entered the local city government as the Secretary of People’s Defense (Croatian: Sekretar narodne obrane), where he exerted considerable power in the local police and business, esp. in preparation for the impending war. During the war, he engaged in paramilitary activities which were subsequently investigated by the Hague tribunal^[1] and covered by the (now defunct) Croatian newspaper Feral Tribune.^[2]

At the turn of 1991, several properties owned by ethnic Serbs were blown up in Vukovar, and it was widely speculated that Merčep was behind this. In 1997 Feral Tribune released a document which confirmed exchanges of large quantities of explosive materials in September 1990 between Merčep and Branimir Glavaš. In August 1991, Merčep was briefly arrested by Croatian authorities and detained on undisclosed charges, but was soon released and moved to Zagreb together with his family, a week before the Battle of Vukovar started.^{[citation needed]}

Merčep later became an officer in the Croatian Ministry of Internal Affairs and he participated in the other fronts of the Croatian War of Independence, being in command of thousands of paramilitaries which were responsible for killing and expelling thousands of ethnic Serbs from areas in and around Gospić, among other places (notably the Murder of the Zec family in Zagreb). A decade later, five members of his unit, Munib Suljić, Igor Mikola, Siniša Rimac, Miro Bajramović and Branko Šarić, were indicted on several criminal charges related to the so-called “Pakračka poljana” case, involving the killing of prisoners, mostly ethnic Serbs, in a field near Pakrac, and later convicted.^[3][4] Tomislav Merčep himself was not indicted in these proceedings.

Merčep became a HDZ member of the Chamber of Counties of Croatian Parliament in 1993.

In 1995, he became the leader of the “Association of Croatian Volunteer Veterans of the Patriotic War” (Croatian: Udruga hrvatskih dragovoljaca Domovinskog rata, UHDDR). As of 2010 he remains at the head of that association.

In late 1990s he quit the HDZ and instead founded his own party, the Croatian Popular Party (Hrvatska pučka stranka, HPS). In 2000 he ran as a HPS candidate on 2000 presidential elections, where he received 0.85% of the vote and was eliminated in the first round.

In 2003, the Croatian weekly Nacional reported that the ICTY was “completing an indictment against Tomislav Merčep”, after having talked to Franjo Gregurić, Mladen Markač, Hrvoje Šarinić and others.^[5] There were media reports in 2006 that an indictment against Merčep himself, based on ICTY investigations, was forthcoming in the Croatian legal system.^[6] In December 2010, Amnesty International stated Merčep should be prosecuted based on a series of public testimonies about crimes committed by his subordinates.^[7][8] In the same week, the County Prosecutor in Zagreb brought up charges against Merčep and he was arrested.^[9]

exemplarisch, wie Berlin die Menschenrechtsthematik völlig
willkürlich, aber dennoch wirkungsvoll einsetzt: Während die
Bundesregierung als Beschützerin der syrischen Opposition auftritt,
deren Unterdrückung sie über Jahrzehnte per Kooperation mit syrischen
Geheimdiensten begünstigte, schieben deutsche Behörden noch in diesen
Tagen syrische Flüchtlinge ab.

Die syrische Opposition ist laut US-Geheimdienstdirektor James Clapper keine einheitliche Nationalbewegung, sondern ist zersplittert und stellt keine Gefahr für das Regime von Baschar al-Assad dar.

In Syrien „gibt es keine einheitlich organisierte oppositionelle Kraft. Alles, was es gibt, ist sehr lokal begrenzt und beruht auf regionalen und ethnischen Prinzipien“, sagte Clappner am Donnerstag bei einer Anhörung zu dem Thema im US-Kongress.

Vor dem Hintergrund der instabilen Lage im Land und des Fehlens einer starken Opposition seien in Syrien iranische Geheimdienste sowie das Terrornetzwerk al-Qaida aktiv geworden.

„Die Iraner sind über die Lage von Assad beunruhigt und denken nach, wie man ihm helfen kann. Sie entsenden (nach Syrien) Ausbilder und schicken Soldatenausrüstung – hauptsächlich für die Niederschlagung von Unruhen“, so Clapper.

„Ein weiteres uns beunruhigendes Moment ist die Anwesenheit von Extremisten, die sich in die oppositionellen Gruppen infiltriert haben. Es sind bereits zwei Terroranschläge in Damaskus und zwei weitere in Aleppo verübt worden – in allen Fällen können wir die Spuren von al-Qaida erkennen.“

Jetzt will diese Verrückte, auch noch mit ihren Geschichten, das die Bulgarien sich von den Energie Geschäften der Russen lösen und distanzieren. Hintergrund ist der entgültige Bau Beginn der South-East Pipeline in 2012. Die US Projekte, wie AMBO, sind vollkommen gescheitert, obwohl man deshalb u.a. den Kosovo Krieg führte und die Milliarden teure Bond-Steel Anlage im Kosovo gebaut hat, welche nun aufgegeben wird. Alle Pipelines, meiden die Albaner Gebiete, wo selbst die Amerikaner vor Jahren auch eine südlichere Routen Führung, ohne Kosovo und Nord Albanische Gebiete planten, wegen dem Banditen Tum dort.

Ein Amok Lauf, der Hillary Clinton, welche besser am Kochherd geblieben wäre, denn kapieren tut die gute Frau nie etwas. Nicht einmal das die komplette Terror Strategien der Amerikaner in einem Debakel des Bankrottes, Betruges und Verlust der Glaubwürdigkeit untergegangen ist. Hillary Clinton hat keinen Verstand, noch eine eigene Meinung, sondern plabbert den NeoCons nur Alles nach, welche oft nie im Ausland waren.

Robert Kagan (Vorstandsmitglied des PNAC und der FPI; seine Frau Victoria Nuland war einst bei Richard Cheney stellvertretende Beraterin für nationale Sicherheit und ist gegenwärtig Pressesprecherin von Außenministerin Hillary Rodham Clinton) Berliner Umschau Hitler und Stalin, sind gegen diese Massenmörder und Staaten Vernichter, nette Onkels.

Bulgarien hat die geringste Staats Verschuldung in Europa und verpulverte nur viele Milliarden, mit Unsinnigen Energie Strategien u.a. mit RWE und dem Belene Atom Kraftwerk. Trotzdem ist es mit einer nahezu Null Verschuldung, eines der finanziell seriösesten Länder der Welt, wo die USA mit ihrem Betrugs und Null Wert $, abschreckend wirken. Eine Abhängigkeit von Westlichen Energie Lieferanten, würde wie die Welt Geschichte zeigt, zum Ruin auch von Bulgarien führen.

SOFIA — U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton will ask Bulgarian officials to end their country’s energy dependency on Russia, according to reports.

The media are quoting U.S. officials, who spoke ahead of Clinton’s visit to Bulgaria.

They also stated that beside requesting a diminished Bulgarian dependency on Russian natural gas and oil, Clinton would also promote “alternatives to existing oil routes, and development of new energy sources”.

The U.S. state secretary believes that Eastern Europe’s reliance on Russia in the energy sector renders it “vulnerable”, due to Moscow’s “unhealthy” political pressure.

Clinton’s trip to Bulgaria came after she took part in an international security conference held in Munich, Germany.

Senator Hillary Clinton’s worldview, as formulated above, is starkly at odds with that of America’s founders. The idea that the American nation had “goals”, just as individuals do, would have been wholly alien to them. For them the whole undertaking of government was to protect our “self–evident” rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This emphasis on the primacy of the individual is the essence of true American exceptionalism.

National goals are a euphemism for concentrated national political power. The “Old World” was full of nations with goals, almost all pernicious. The concept of national goals is not so much un–American as it is non–American. But Mrs. Clinton persists in promoting the concept, saying at a recent campaign speech in New Hampshire that rather than an “ownership society” she would “prefer a ‘we’re all in it together’ society”. She frequently invokes the notion that Americans want “to be part of something bigger than themselves”.

She has an unusual ally in this. The one other powerful political force in the US today that shares her frustration over the lack of national goals is neoconservatism. Neocons call it “national greatness”. Their theorists Bill Kristol and Robert Kagan called President George W. Bush’s willingness to “engage wherever necessary around the world” a recognition of “an essential part of national greatness”.

Perhaps its most articulate proponent, however, is David Brooks, the New York Times columnist. Mr. Brooks wrings his hands in a Weekly Standard article that “Americans have discarded their pursuit of national greatness in just about every particular”. And how would he describe that goal? “Individual ambition and willpower are channelled into the cause of national greatness. And by making the nation great, individuals are able to join their narrow concerns to a larger national project.” “Ultimately,” he continues, “American purpose can find its voice only in Washington.”

Mrs. Clinton would appear to have found a soulmate in Mr. Brooks, if not a future running mate.

Yet there is more to Mrs. Clinton’s neocon connections. Another characteristic she shares is the promiscuity with which both camps would use the federal government — as if there simply were no constitutional limits on federal power. Given the neocons’ high profile in pushing us into the Iraq war, it is often overlooked how far their domestic policies unfailingly call for vigorous federal initiatives.

The federal takeover of education, dubbed “No Child Left Behind”, is a neocon project. So, too, was the Faith–based Initiative that funded local religious organisations. Mr. Brooks recently called for presidential candidates to “create a flourishing families committee. Get economists, religious activists, and psychologists in one room to figure out how government can reduce stress on struggling families”. This would be the same government that took three days to discover that Hurricane Katrina had created a bit of a problem in New Orleans….

On June 22, during press conference at the Ritz Carlton in Jamaica with that country’s foreign minister and deputy prime minister, a reporter said Libya is looking “increasingly quagmire-like” and Obama’s actions circumvented Congress (in addition to the Constitution, although the reporter did not say that).

“What is the – your vision for the endgame, a medium-term plan for U.S. involvement in Libya?” he asked.

As I’ve written before, conservative pundits love Hillary Clinton and despise the party’s liberal base. While Karl Rove and George Bush have predicted that she will win the nomination, there’s a more basic reason why the right would be content with a President Hillary Clinton. It would not shift the political center of gravity, nor upset the current power structure where conservatives have flourished. In his October 12 column for the Washington Post, neo-conservative Charles Krauthammer lauded Hillary Clinton’s candidacy – calling her the “Great Navigator.” Never mind the rhetoric that she currently gives to win the primary, he said, for Hillary’s “liberalism is redeemed by her ambition; her ideology subordinate to her political needs.” While many liberals currently support Clinton, the right understands that – in a year where Democrats will probably win the Presidency – Hillary is the best that they can hope for.

Krauthammer begins his column by praising Bill Clinton’s two main domestic accomplishments: welfare repeal and NAFTA, the latter of which he calls “the crown jewel.” As Democrats like John Edwards have criticized the corporate-backed trade agreement and advocate its repeal, Hillary admits that NAFTA did not realize the promises that were made – and it should be reassessed every five years…..http://www.beyondchron.org/news/index.php?itemid=5011

Die ehemalige Präsidentengattin gewinnt in Ohio, Texas und Rhode Island
Der erste Sieger dieser Nacht war John McCain: Als feststand, dass er in Vermont und Ohio gewonnen hatte, bereitete sein Wahlkampfteam schon die Luftballons vor, die aufsteigen sollten, wenn er die für eine sichere Kandidatur notwendigen 1191 Delegierten erreichen würde. Als gegen drei Uhr mitteleuropäischer Zeit auch der Sieg in Texas folgte, war klar, dass sie nicht umsonst gearbeitet hatten. Bei den Demokraten war es wesentlich spannender.
