Albanien, hatte Ende 1990 eine Super Grund Basis, eine echte Demokratie zu werden,wie aus den hier veröffentlichen Meetings der Studenten mit dem damaligen Albanischen Präsidenten Ramiz Alia hervor geht (Videos der Meetings unten und Text Ausführungen). Die Kommunisten damals, waren sogar der Motor, für die Umgestaltung und Erneuerung in Zusammenarbeit mit den Studenten damals.

Neben extrem dummen und kriminellen Amerikanern (US-Albanische Handelskammer, AAEF in Tirana), welche private Geschäfte in Albanien auch mit Drogen betrieben, wie die US Botschafterin Mariza Lino, Josef Limprecht, spielten vor allem Deutsche Politiker im Balkan ein Mafiöse Rolle, den kompletten Balkan zu korrumpieren. Und das fängt direkt mit Gerhard Schröder u.a. mit den EADS Geschäfte, des heute angeklagten Rumänischen Premier Nastase, oder den Rezzo Schlauch, wie Bodo Hombach Geschäften mit der Prominenz der Verbrecher Clans.

Heute im Geschichtlichen Rückblick ist die Albanischen Mafiöse Mentalität so vollkommen verkommen,  und Gesetze, Verträge, ja auch jede Art von Gast Freundschaft ablehnt und da unter Demokratie versteht, wie im Artikel aufgeführt ist: Jeder macht was er will (democracy means the right to do as one wants) und Alles ist käuflich und massiver Staats Betrug, geradezu das Geschäft.

Grundlage des vollkommen Versagens auch des Westens, sind die damals bekannten Führer, einer angeblichen Demokratie: Salih Berisha, Azem Hajdarj u.a. , mit der einfältigen Berg Albaner Mentalität der Leute aus Tropoje, welche in Albanien berüchtigt sind. Salih Berisha ist nun mal nur der Sohn, eines Berg Bauern und lebt in der Mentalität eines Schaf Hirten. (enger Partner von Salih Berisha, war in 1991, schon der Weltbank Präsident Wolferson)

Statt den Phrasen, einer Demokratisierung, verwandelten diese Gestalten und viele auch aus der Ex-Kommunistischen Partei, wie vor allem Fatos Nano, den kompletten Staat, in ein privates Plünderungs Refugium um — wo Alles erlaubt ist. Azem Hajadari und Salih Berisha, Fatmir Mediu, Agron Musaraj, Mustafaj, die Shabani, wie Spartak Braho Mafia aus Durres, begannen damals u.a. vor allem mit dem Treibstoff Schmuggel nach Jugoslawien, wo die Amerikaner tatenlos zusahen, was ihre Freunde vor Ort so trieben. Ebenso wurde der Waffen schmuggel in den Kosovo gezielt weiter geführt, über den Haklaj Clan ebenso in Tropoje. Und dann artete Alles aus, als Drogen Vertriebs Stelle der Amerikaner für Europa.

Heute ist Albanien eine weitgehenst verrottete Gesellschaft, wie die jüngste Flut Kathastrophe zeigt, wo nun 28% der Bevölkerung gezielt die Auswanderung vorbereitet. Man kann das den Einwohnern nicht verübeln, nachdem Leute wie Joschka Fischer, Schröder und Co. mit der SPD auch nur Betrugs- Entwicklungshelfer mit der GTZ entsandte, oder Profi Verbrecher mit den Lobby Vereinen, wie dem DAW was aber ein Weltweit von Partei Buch Gängern installiertes System ist, der Auslands Regierungs Bestechung, was Leute wie Klaus Mangold Mafiös aufgebaut haben. Gipfel Punkt, waren hoch kriminelle Deutsche Diplomaten(1999-2005) in der Botschaft Tirana, deren Verbrecherische Energie in die Ermordung Deutscher Investoren führte, welche den Visa Skandal anzeigten. (vor allem Thomas Weck, Heribert Schenck, Sabine Bloch - BKA Bericht hierüber) und ordinär dummer Botschafter, wie kriminelle Umtriebe im BMZ der Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, welche 6 Milliarden €,mit Nonsens Projekten der Entwicklungshilfe Weltweit verschwinden liess.

Albania Could Use Some Revolutionary Spirit

Today’s youth could learn from the  student uprising that challenged the communist regime 20 years ago.

The collapse of communism in Albania was by no means a revolution.  But some revolutionary moments took place, and this week marks the 20th anniversary of one such dramatic event.

On December 8, 1990, a group of students at Enver Hoxha University in Tirana – named after the communist dictator – decided they had endured enough.  More than one year had passed since the fall of the Berlin Wall but Albania’s communist party still ruled supreme.  Hoxha’s successor had craftily avoided real reform, aided by Albania’s extreme isolation and the long arm of fear.  After decades of prisons, forced labor camps and executions for mild criticism, few Albanians stood ready to confront the regime.  Unlike Poland, Czechoslovakia and even Russia, of dissidents there were none.

A key figure in the communist leadership at the time called the process a “transfer of influence.”

Twenty years later, the students’ brief revolt seems a distant memory. None of the key figures from that time plays a role in Albania’s public life: most are abroad or in business; one served time in prison and another was murdered. The campus of the renamed Tirana University has no spirit of dissent today. Students pay for good grades.

Albania has a plethora of private academic institutions today, such as universities named “Epoka”, “Kristal” and the “University of New York Tirana”. Students are no longer taught what the ruling party wants them to think and say. But like so much in Albania, these universities are about business, pumping out degrees in architecture, engineering and law. Their uncritical orientation is towards the country’s current patron, the United States, just as Albanians during communism looked to the Soviet Union and then China

So, the students decided to act.  A few had developed vague political ideas with young professors, whispering about democracy, but many dreamed of materialistic gains long forbidden by Eastern Europe’s most rigid and Stalinist state: Beatles music, blue jeans and the joys of life as seen on Italian TV.

On December 8, the lights on the university campus went out, as they did many nights, and a small group gathered to protest.  The students worried the regime.  Unlike the intellectuals and professional class with ties to the party, the younger generation could be less controlled.  The protest spread, culminating on December 11 in the legalization of political pluralism.  The first opposition party was created the next day, controlled by Tirana elites, and it assumed power through democratic elections 14 months after that.

Maybe it is a healthy sign that people are making decisions based on their perceived self-interest; a revolutionary spirit can be a sign of deep-seated ills.  Indeed, Albania has opened radically over the last 20 years. It is no longer a land with sealed borders where prison terms face those who paint unacceptable art, practice religion or question the idea of a Socialist paradise.

But a middle ground surely exists, where young people also ponder how to make their country a better place: how to protect the environment, how to fight corruption, how to build a system where independent institutions replace the monolithic column that for decades dominated national life.

Instead, the defeat of hard-line communism has led to an allergic rejection of all things communal; democracy means the right to do as one wants. The students do not need to confront the police or stage another hunger strike. But a waft of revolutionary spirit would invigorate and improve the frantically pluralistic and wildly individualistic scene that the students helped create two decades ago.

The student quarter of Tirana, called Student City, sits atop a low hill in the southeast of the city. In 1990, the squat beige and gray dormitories surrounded an open area of broken concrete and trampled grass.  The communist-era elite controlled most aspects of Albania’s political shift but that autumn the students briefly took charge of that drab hilltop and rattled the regime.

The ferment began when the university postponed the start of classes for two weeks.  The government claimed some buildings needed repair, but the students smelled deceit.  The French and Italian embassies lay a short walk from Student City.  The government probably feared another embassy siege.

When classes began, party functionaries condemned “the vagabonds” who had stormed the embassies in July and urged students to respect the law.  The Party of Labor was becoming democratic, they said.  Albanians themselves would dictate the pace of change.  The students rejected the claims.  When the Minister of Interior visited the Academy of Arts, he faced sharp questions about free speech and the ban on modern art.

The students were losing their patience.  For one year they had watched the dramatic changes in Czechoslovakia, East Germany and even Romania, hoping Ramiz Alia would follow that path.  Instead, every move was mixed.  Alia allowed the issuance of passports but soldiers shot those attempting to flee across the border.  Previously taboo topics appeared in the state press but Alia demanded respect for the party line.

Many of the students came from other cities, including Shkoder and Kavaja.  They had watched the first protests in those cities and brought that energy to Tirana.  Like the rest of Eastern Europe, they thought Albania had to change.

While the students spoke, Mustafaj introduced Berisha to the energetic student Azem Hajdari, who had exhorted the students from the concrete bench in Student City the night before, and whom Mustafaj knew from their common Tropoja home.  It was the first time Berisha and Hajdari met.  They would play a complicated political game with one another for the next eight years.  The three men retreated to the cafeteria basement for a quiet talk in an alcove, Mustafaj recalled, where Berisha asked Hajdari about the students’ demands.  We want better living conditions, Hajdari replied.  “You don’t start this by putting sugar in your tea,” Berisha replied.  “You should demand pluralism.”  The students should not leave Student City, Berisha urged, but put political pluralism atop the list.

Wahre Hintergründe, der Franz Josef Strauss Besuche in Albanien: Bei dem letzten Strausse Besuch regelte Strauss Alles in Albanien, das der Staats Präsident Ramiz Alia, ab sofort Waffen in den Kosovo liefert, an die Kosovo Clans, welche ja in Europa schon für Drogen schmuggel und Verbrechen berüchtigt waren. Ramiz Alia, erhielt dafür Entwicklungshilfe, Geld, technische Hilfe aus Deutschland u.a. eine Milch Fabrik. Ramiz Alia, beauftragte dafür den Fatmir Haklaj Clan in Tropoje, der Geburtssitz auch des jetzigen Premier Minister Salih Berisha. Hans Dietrich Genscher, in Abstimmung mit dem US Senator Bob Dole (Senatorin Elisabeth Dole, auch US Rot Kreuz Präsidentin), organisierte Zeit gleich, die Kosovaren Seite, welche Waffen erhalten sollte u.a. Bushovshi. ab 1987, wurden Waffen in den Kosovo geliefert, mit Genehmigung von Fatos Nano, Ramiz Alia, und im Gegenzug, gab es Entwicklungshilfe für Albanien, was der eigentliche Grund des Franz Josef Strauss Besuches war, inklusive Gegeneinladung nach Bonn, wo die Dumm Spatzen des Politik Büros, ihre erbärmlichen Weisheiten von sich geben durften und Nichts kapierten.

Der US-Botschafter in der Türkei berichtet von angeblichen Bankkonten des türkischen Ministerpräsidenten in der Schweiz. Das geht aus von Wikileaks
veröffentlichten Depeschen hervor.

In einer als «geheim» klassifizierten Depesche vom 30. Dezember 2004 schreibt Eric Edelmann, US-Botschafter in Ankara, eine Abhandlung über den türkischen Ministerpräsidenten Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Der Titel der Depesche: «Erdogan und die AK-Partei nach zwei Jahren an der Macht: Der Versuch, sich selber, die Türkei und Europa in den Griff zu kriegen.»

In einem Abschnitt über Korruption berichtet Edelmann, dass immer wieder von grassierender Korruption in Erdogans Regierungspartei die Rede sei. «Von zwei Kontakten haben wir gehört, dass Erdogan acht Konten auf Schweizer Banken hat», steht in der Depesche. «Seine Erklärungen, dass sein Vermögen von Hochzeitsgeschenken stammt, die Gäste seinem Sohn gegeben haben, und dass ein türkischer Geschäftsmann die Ausbildungsausgaben aller vier Erdogan-Kinder in den USA aus reinem Altruismus bezahlt, sind lahm.»

Başbakan Erdoğan’ın banka hesaplarının adresi Remzi Gür

Ankara / İstanbul- İşçi Partisi (İP) Genel Başkan Vekili Mehmet Bedri Gültekin, İP Genel Merkezinde düzenlediği basın toplantısında Wikileaks adlı internet sitesinde ”Başbakan Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’ın İsviçre bankalarında hesabı bulunduğu yönündeki iddiaların doğru olduğunu” ileri sürdü. İP Genel Başkanı Doğu Perinçek’e 5 yıl önce gönderilen ve Başbakan Erdoğan ile ABD’nin eski Ankara Büyükelçisi Eric Edelman arasında geçtiğini öne sürdüğü görüşmeyi bu duruma kanıt olarak sunan Gültekin, ”Olay ispatlanmıştır çünkü bizzat ABD Büyükelçisi Edelman, bu sırdaş hesap bilgisini veriyor” dedi.

Başbakan Erdoğan ile Remzi Gür arasında geçtiğini iddia ettiği bir ses kaydını da basın mensuplarına dinleten Gültekin, ”Tayyip Erdoğan’ın kişisel ödemelerini Remzi Gür yapıyor. Tayyip Erdoğan’ın banka hesaplarının adresi Remzi Gür. Tayyip Erdoğan, Remzi Gür, telefonda ‘Sümeyye’ye 20-25 yolla’ dediğin miktarı hangi banka hesabına ödedi? Remzi Gür, ABD’deki çocuklarının öğrenim giderlerini hangi banka hesabından karşılıyor? Yurt dışında kendi üzerine veya mutemetlerinin adına açtırdığın kaç banka hesabı var?” iddialarında bulundu.

Remzi Gür’den iddialara cevap

İşadamı Remzi Gür, Gültekin’in iddialarıyla ilgili yargı yoluna başvuracağını belirterek, ”Başbakan ile aramızdaki ilişkilerle ilgili seneler evvel bir açıklama yaptık. Onlar aklına her estiği zaman bu iftira kampanyasını devam ettiriyorlar. Bu iftiradan başka bir şey değildir” ifadesini kullandı.

Bu iddiaları dile getirenlerin ellerinde bir kanıt olmadığını vurgulayan Gür, ”Birine iftira edilirken önüne ispatı da konulmalıdır. Böyle bir ispat olmadan bunları söylemek hangi insanlık ölçülerine yakışır” dedi.

Böyle bir işin içinde olmalarının mümkün olmadığını belirten Gür, ”Başbakan’ın gizli kasa tutmasına ihtiyaç mı var? Bu iddialarla uzaktan yakından alakamız yok. Başbakan’ın da böyle bir şeye ihtiyacı yok” vurgusu yaptı.

Gür’ün avukatından açıklama

İş adamı Remzi Gür’ün avukatı Abdullah Buladı, İşçi Partisi (İP) Genel Başkan Vekili Mehmet Bedri Gültekin hakkında hukuki ve cezai dava haklarının kullanılacağını kaydetti.

Buladı, konuya ilişkin yaptığı yazılı açıklamada, Gültekin’in iddialarına konu olan Başbakan Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ve Remzi Gür arasındaki sözde telefon görüşmesinin ”İşte yurt dışındaki banka hesaplarının ispatı” başlığıyla Aydınlık dergisinde yayımlandığını hatırlatarak, bu nedenle Başbakan Erdoğan ve Gür tarafından yetkili cumhuriyet savcılığına suç duyurusunda bulunulduğunu belirtti.

Bosnien ist der große Verlierer von Dayton. Das Land kommt nicht auf die Füße. Und niemand hat ein Rezept, wie das zu ändern wäre. Vielleicht wird es eines fernen Tages doch aufgeteilt. Aber vor drei neuen Kleinstaaten à la Kosovo möge der Herrgott den Balkan und ganz Europa bewahren!

Tunnel in die Vergangenheit

Familie Kolar lebt 15 Jahre nach dem Ende des Bosnienkrieges noch immer zwischen Feldkochtöpfen und Militärausrüstung. Unter dem Keller ihres Hauses verläuft das letzte erhaltene Teilstück des 800 Meter langen Tunnels, der im Krieg als Fluchtweg aus dem belagerten Sarajevo diente. „Ohne den Tunnel gäbe es Sarajevo heute nicht mehr“, sagt Edis Kolar. Er hat sein Wohnhaus zu einem Kriegsmuseum umgewandelt und lebt von den Touristen, die täglich durch den Tunnel laufen.

Ein teurer Frieden

15 Jahre nach dem Bosnien-Krieg kommt der Balkan-Staat wirtschaftlich noch immer nicht richtig in Schwung. Erfolgsgeschichten wie die des Unternehmers Nihad Imamovic sind seltene Ausnahmen. Denn das Dayton-Abkommen beendete 1995 zwar einen Krieg mit Tausenden zivilen Todesopfern, doch es bescherte dem Land zugleich eine teure ethnische Aufteilung: mit drei Präsidenten und mit Ministern, die nach Volkszugehörigkeit ausgewählt werden, nicht nach Qualifikation.

Israel hat gegen seine Nachbarn hochgerüstet - doch die verheerenden Waldbrände zeigen der Nation ihre Grenzen. Schuld an der Katastrophe sind verantwortungslose Politiker. Einer glaubt sogar an eine Strafe Gottes.

Militärisch ist Israel gegen alle Angriffe gewappnet: mit Satelliten im All, Raketenabwehrsystemen am Boden und Kampflugzeugen, die von jedem Feind gefürchtet werden. Doch dann schlägt das Feuer zu - und die Nation ist hilflos. Tagelang wüten die Waldbrände, mehr als 40 Menschen sterben, Tausende werden in die Flucht getrieben, Milliardenschäden verursacht. Manchmal ist eben die Natur der schlimmste Feind, und alle Rüstung ist vergebens.

Noch ehe die letzte Flamme gelöscht und der Rauch verzogen ist, stellt sich auch bei dieser Katastrophe die Schuldfrage: War es die monatelange Dürre, zusammen mit den unberechenbaren Winden? Nein, so einfach ist es nicht. Denn ein Großteil der Schuld entfällt auf Ignoranz, verkörpert von verantwortungslosen Politikern.

Die Feuersbrunst im Karmel-Gebirge hat dem Land eine verheerende Asymmetrie vor Augen geführt. Gerade noch hat der Verteidigungsminister stolz 20 neue Kampfflugzeuge zum Preis von vier Milliarden Dollar in den USA bestellt, da fällt wieder auf, dass es nicht ein einziges Löschflugzeug in Israel gibt. Die gesamte Ausrüstung der Feuerwehr zeigt sich in beklagenswertem Dritt-Welt-Zustand, und es stellt sich heraus, dass im ganzen Land nur 1300 Feuerwehrleute Dienst tun. Das ist pro Kopf der Bevölkerung sechs bis sieben Mal weniger, als es westlichen Standards entspricht. Die bittere Folge: Israels Brandbekämpfer mussten sich hilflos den Flammen ergeben und darauf warten, dass nach 24 Stunden endlich Hilfe aus dem Ausland kam.

Die Katastrophe also wäre vermeidbar gewesen, doch wie kann ein solcher Missstand entstehen in einem sonst so hoch entwickelten Land, zumal die Dürre hier doch chronisch ist und ein Waldbrand an der Tagesordnung? Die Antwort darauf berührt den Kern der israelischen Misere: Die heimliche Atommacht ist unheimlich verrottet. Immer wieder versinkt die Führung in einem Sumpf von Korruption, Politik wird als größtmögliches Geschacher um Partikularinteressen verstanden. Prioritäten werden in einem solchen Gestrüpp nicht nach Notwendigkeit, sondern nach Opportunität gesetzt: Gibst du mir meine Siedlungen, geb’ ich dir deine Religionsschulen. Der Großbrand wirft nun ein grelles Schlaglicht auf dieses System. Im Mittelpunkt der Kritik steht der zuständige Innenminister Eli Jischai. Im Kabinett vertritt er die ultra-orthodoxe Schas-Partei, die ihren Wählerauftrag allein so versteht, möglichst viel für die fromme Klientel herauszuschlagen. Die Feuerwehr gehört leider nicht dazu.

Rücktrittsforderungen aber weist Minister Jischai brüsk zurück, schließlich ist er sich keiner Schuld bewusst. Die wirklich Schuldigen nämlich hat Rabbi Ovadia Josef benannt, der spirituelle Führer der Schas-Partei. Der Brand, so hat er am Sabbat gepredigt, sei die Strafe Gottes dafür, dass die Bewohner des Karmel-Gebirges ihre religiösen Pflichten nicht erfüllt haben.

Deutscher KFOR General Erhard Bühler, macht Wahl Kampf für den most criminal und Terroristen: Sami Lushtaku

Der Deutsche General Erhard Bühler, besuchte gestern, den sogenannten Bürgermeister von Skenderaj, einem der berüchtigsten Verbrecher des Kosovo und Mitglied in der PTK - Partei. Die Koha Ditore, ein doch seriöses Blatt zitiert General Bühler, das er zum zweiten Male, die Stadt Skenderaj besucht und gute Kontakte zu dem Super Verbrecher Sami Lushtaku wichtig seien.

Das ist halt wie in Afghanistan, wo man nur mit Verbrechern Kontakte hat und diese auch noch mit Deutschen Steuergeldern finanziert werden. Die besondere NATO Methode, sich überall Freunde zu machen.

Der Kosovo, ein Produkt korrupter Deutscher - und US Politiker um Joschka Fischer, Steinmeier und der FES vor allem,ist im Moment ohne Regierung und Präsidenten. Über 10 Jahre, nach dem inzenierten Kriegs Einsatz, durch die Kosovo Terroristen (siehe damalige OSCE, AA Berichte und dem Report des US Gesandten Robert Gelbard), wurden Null Fortschritte erreicht und eine identische negativ Entwicklung, wie in Afghanistan eingeleitet.

Am 12. Dezember sind deshalb Parlaments Wahlen angesetzt, wobei Sami Lushtaku, ein besonders wichtiger Mann in der Verbrecher Partei des Hashim Thaci ist rund um die sogenannten PTK Partei.

Bürgermeister wurde Sami Lushtaku, nur weil er Stimmen zusammen kaufte, wie ein UNMIK Sprecher ausdrücklich bestätigte und zum Betrugs System der Deutschen FES - SPD mit Joachim Rückers gehört.

Sami Lushtaku, wurde als KPC-General gefeuert, weil er hohes Mitglied in der Terroristen Organisation AKSH - ANA war und auch einen entsprechenden Ausweis bei sich trug. Lushtaku sei in Srbica, im Norden der von der UN verwalteten Provinz, festgenommen worden. Jim Moran sagte, Lushtaku sei nicht wegen der Aktivitäten als Kommandierender der UCK in Gewahrsam genommen worden, sondern wegen Erpressung von Landsleuten und anderen kriminellen Handlungen. Epirus in antiquity

Antigonea (Greek: Αντιγόνεια), also transliterated as Antigonia and Antigoneia, was the chief inland city of ancient Chaonia. Pyrrhus of Epirus, the founder, named it after one of his wives, Antigone, daughter of Berenice.

Its ruins are located just south of the village of Saraqinisht in the Antigonë municipality, Gjirokastër District, Albania. Now that area has been declared a National Archaeological Park by the Albanian Government. The ruins are accessible from Gjirokastër by car or by nature trail.^[1]

The Archeological Park is known for having organized since 2007 a yearly Festival of the Pagan Rites and the Popular Games (Albanian: Festivali Riteve Pagane dhe Lojnave Popullore).^[2]

Albania Under Fire Again for Extradition Decision

Albania has come under fire again for a decision to extradite murder suspect Almir Rrapo to the United States in defiance of a binding measure from the European Court of Human Rights.

The Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, David Darchiashvili, expressed his deep concern at the decision to extradite Rrapo despite a binding interim measure ordered by the European Court of Human Rights to halt the extradition.

“The Parliamentary Assembly will debate this issue at its January session and will certainly take a clear stand strongly condemning the unacceptable disregard of European Convention on Human Rights requirements,” Darchiashvili said.

Almir Rrapo was transferred by Albanian authorities to FBI officials at Tirana’s Mother Theresa airport on November 24 and flown to the US to face trial on charges of murder, kidnapping and racketeering.

Two days later, on November 26, Albania’s Supreme Court annulled the extradition of Rrapo, but the ruling arrived too late.

Despite an order from the Strasbourg Human Rights Court to halt the extradition until the Albanian Supreme Court delivered its ruling, the country’s Minister of Justice Bujar Nishani signed the transfer of the suspect to US authorities.

Rrapo’s lawyers had contested his extradition, arguing that the Albanian authorities had not received guarantees from the US Justice Department that the defendant would not receive the death penalty in a US court.

Rrapo was arrested by Albanian Police inside the US embassy in Tirana on July 2. He worked previously as an aide to former foreign minister Ilir Meta, who currently serves as the country’s economy minister.

His arrest created a political storm in Albania, with the opposition calling for the resignation of Foreign Minister Ilir Meta over his hiring of Rrapo as an aide.

He is alleged to have been part of a racketeering group known as the Krasniqi Organisation, led by brothers Bruno and Saimir Krasniqi, which operated in New York, Connecticut and Michigan.

Rrapo denied the charges during his extradition hearings in Tirana.

Blowback: Afghanistan and Bosnia

November 30, 2010 – 2:05 pmAs the U.S. and NATO casualties rise from the war in Afghanistan, with 2010 being the deadliest year of the nine-year war for the U.S., the question needs to be asked of how we got involved in that interminable and unwinnable conflict? The Afghan war has been dubbed Barack Obama’s War but its origins go back much earlier. Is the U.S. military disaster in Afghanistan an instance of blowback?

What is the standard definition of “blowback”? The U.S. intervenes illegally in a volatile and unstable scenario and over time the consequences of that criminality come back to reek havoc on U.S. domestic and foreign policy. That definition is as good as any.

The U.S. overthrew Mohammad Mosaddegh in Iran in 1953 in a CIA-engineered “regime change”. He was democratically elected but he threatened to nationalize British Petroleum (BP) and potential U.S. oil firms in Iran. Twenty five years later, the inevitable result was the Iranian Revolution whose militants directly blamed the U.S. and who dub the U.S. “the Great Satan”.

Now, that is classic blowback, the textbook definition. We created that outcome. Yet U.S. policymakers ignore and suppress this obvious cause. Instead, they manufacture delusional explanations, fabrications, and rationalizations. These policy wonks argue that Iran is sui generis and that their animus at the U.S. is motivated by their hatred for our freedom and democracy.

The U.S. armed and created the mujahedeen Freedom Fighters in Afghanistan. The U.S. made them viable. Ossama bin Laden was one of those mujahedeen Charlie Wilson empowered. Twenty years later, these Islamic Freedom Fighters created by Ronald Reagan are flying planes into the Pentagon and World Trade Centers. The U.S. also helped these Arab-Afghan mujahedeen illegally enter Bosnia to fight for the Muslim Army there during the 1992-1995 civil war.

Charlie Wilson was a major supporter of U.S. involvement in the Bosnian civil war on the side of the Bosnian Muslim faction. Wilson toured the former Yugoslavia for five days in January, 1993. When he ruturned to the U.S., he recommended to the Bill Clinton Administration that the UN imposed arms embargo be illegally and unilaterally lifted for the Bosnian Muslim armed forces. He rationalized this illegal action as follows: “This is good versus evil and, if we do not want to Americanize this, then what do we want to Americanize? We have to stand for something.” Bosnia became another 1980s Afghanistan with the Bosnian Muslim forces in the role of the Arab-Afghan mujahedeen. Charlie Wilson urged the U.S. government to remake the Bosnian civil war into another Afghanistan.

In Afghanistan, according to Peter Bergen in Holy War Inc. (Free Press, 2001), most of the U.S. aid to the Arab-Afghan mujahedeen during Operation Cyclone went to Islamic militant Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, a senior Taliban leader who supported and backed Al-Qaeda. In other words, most of the aid went to the Taliban and, through them, to Ossama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda. On February 19, 2003, the U.S. State Department designated Hekmatyar as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist”. Hekmatyar was transmogrified from “freedom fighter” to “terrorist”.

And what were the consequences of this illegal U.S. support for the Bosnian Muuslim faction?

When Arab-Afghan mujahedeen, now dubbed Al-Qaeda, blew up the WTC, these mujahedeen had Bosnian Muslim pasports that Alija Izetbegovic issued to them and Bosnian military experience as veterans of the Bosnian conflict.

Now this is an instance of classic blowback. What part of this is so difficult to understand?

Of course, we can speculate that these attacks would have occurred even if the Charlie Wilsons of the world had not created them. But this is to be in denial and delusional.

Al-Qaeda needed the infrastructure, the funding, the planning, the training, the logistical knowledge, the financial network that the U.S. and CIA provided. After all, the U.S. recruited Ossama bin Laden from Saudi Arabia. This takes a massive logistical support system that only the U.S. government and CIA could provide. Moreover, the Al-Qaeda group needed the Taliban regime in Kabul to train and organize and to use as a base of operations. The U.S., in essence, created the Taliban and put it in power. We cheered and gloated when the Taliban hung the secular leaders. We had won in Afghanistan.

Moreover, the Bosnia experience made Al-Qaeda global and gave them the skill and confidence to pull off 9/11. It was the U.S. that empowered Al-Qaeda in Bosnia. So the U.S. did everything to create the scenario for 9/11. It is classic blowback.

Critics adduce that the U.S. support of the mujahedeen led directly to the collapse of the Soviet Union. The illegal means justified the laudable ends.

But this is just a myth concocted to rationalize our support of Muslim cutthroats who were cutting the throats of Christians. This is a rationalization with no proof.

Now what is the proof that U.S. support of the mujahedeen resulted in the collapse of the USSR? The mujahedeen shot down Russian helicopters with U.S.-supplied Stinger missiles and killed Orthodox Christians. But the Soviet troops killed mujahedeen insurgents and prevented the emergence of a radical Islamic regime such as the U.S.-backed Taliban. The secenario is similar to the one in Afghanistan in 2010. Like the Soviet Union, the U.S. is attempting to secure a moderate Islamic regime in Kabul.

That fallacious argument also goes against common sense and human nature. War unites a nation and makes it stronger and more unified. Just look at America now after 9/11. CIA support for the mujahedeen kept the USSR together and proved to everyone that the U.S./CIA danger to Russia was real. It united the USSR, just like 9/11 did with us.

Finally, the U.S. took a cynical posture about intervention. Kill them all and let Allah sort them out. One man’s freedom fighter is another man’s terrorist.

But most of those Soviet soldiers the CIA-trained mujahedeen were killing were Orthodox Christians as were most of the Bosnian Serb troops. They were, however, the wrong kinds of Christians, Orthodox or Eastern Christians. U.S. aid was used to kill Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarus Orthodox Christians and Bosnian Serb Orthodox Christians. The “atheist” label was something U.S. propaganda concocted.

While the leak of thousands of classified US embassy cables has shocked the world, it may help Albania uncover details about the role its neighbours have played in the country in the past, especially during the massive unrest in 1997.

Referring to the 822 leaked US embassy cables related to Tirana, noted Albanian historian Sabri Godo, a former politician and one of the authors of the country’s constitution, thinks that Albanians may finally learn the details of the unrest in 1997 that was sparked by the failure of Ponzi schemes and led to anarchy and violence in the country.

According to Socialist Deputy Ilir Gjoni, the country should revise its relations with the Helen country if the documents prove its intervention in our domestic issues.

Meanwhile, Democrat Deputy Edi Paloka thinks that every diplomatic move should come after this documentation has been completely proven.

“We will analyze this documentation in order to better understand our relations with Greece and every other country. Of course, the main purpose of this work will be to focus on our national interests. It is a good thing that public opinion is being given these documents, which have actually happened secretly and for which we were not aware,” said Gjoni.

“Firstly, we should analyze these documents and prove they are true. Their truth is still dubious,” said Paloka.

Meanwhile, Ilir Gjoni thinks that the publication of US secret documents should raise the alarm for the Albanian government.

“Funds for the Intelligence Service have been few, and for its staff it was impossible to exercise their duty and carry their missions. WikiLeaks phenomenon is another alarm bell, for which the government should immediately react,” said Gjoni.

Meanwhile, Democrat Deputy Edi Paloka thinks that if US diplomacy in Tirana has had its subjective opinion on the Albanian politics, this should not influence relations with US.

“Even if an US diplomat has a negative opinion, relations between Albania and US won’t change,” said Paloka.
