Foreign Intelligence Services Have Information For Connection Of Ex-Leader Of Army For Kosovo Liberation Hasim Taqi With Osama Bin Laden Belgrade, February 11, 2002 - Foreign intelligence services, including the US one, have information for the connections of the ex-leader of the Army for Kosovo Liberation /AKL/ Hasim Taqi with Osama bin Laden, the today’s edition of Glas javnosti daily says. The
ex-chief of the Albanian National Intelligence Service Fatos Klosi
confirmed bin Laden has been in Albania in the 90-ies where he had
organized training camps for the AKL fighters.
The candidate for President of Kosovo and leader of the Democratic
Union of Kosovo Ibrahim Rugova also has information in regard of the
connections of Taqi with bin Laden. After the announcement of the
election results Rugova promised to make public the evidences for the
terrorist activity of its political opponent.
The “friendship” between Taqi and bin laden has begun in 1996.
According to the sources of the daily, in the period 1996-2001 bin
Laden has invested some USD 200 M in activities, related to different
criminal deals in Kosovo.
Story of the Day 2001-10-24 Interpol has information that the Albanian terrorists have links with Al Qaida organization and its leader Osama Bin Laden, London-based newspaper the Independent reads. The Independent reports that Interpol’s investigation team was claiming that Osama Bin Laden was related to the Albanian criminal gangs, which have wide network of trafficking in weapons and people, prostitution and racketeering throughout Europe. Interpol also has information that recently people from the Albanian criminal circles met with leaders of the Algerian terrorist organisations. The Albanian police reported that Osama Bin Laden was also present at that meeting. According to information from Interpol, one of Bin Laden’s military commander was appointed for head of the elite terrorist units of the Kosovo Liberation Army, during the Kosovo conflict in 1999
http://www.southeasteurope.org
A combination of chaos and poverty in Albania paved the way for Bin Laden to move in. The Times of London quoted Fatos Klosi, the head of the Albanian intelligence service, who said that bin Laden sent terrorists to Kosovo. Using the front of funding a “humanitarian agency,” bin Laden muscled into Albania as far back as 1994.
The Times report gets even better:
“Klosi said he believed terrorists had already infiltrated other parts of Europe from bases in Albania. Interpol believes more than 100,000 blank Albanian passports were stolen in riots last year, providing ample opportunity for terrorists to acquire false papers.”

Who is Hashim “Snake” Thaci?
source: Javno
Thursday, 21 February 2008
If we are to judge by individual reactions of countries that responded to Kosovo’s declaration of independence, everybody has their own interests – but what is missing from global media reports dedicated to the precedents and separatism is terrorism, which was a constituent factor in creating the world’s newest nation.Great Serbia and Great Albania – two sides of the same coin
The fate of the independent Kosovo is closely tied to the person and work by Hashim Thaci, who joined the Albanian political migration in Switzerland in the early nineties, where he founded the “National Movement for Kosovo”, the Marxist-Leninist political party whose only aim was to unite all of the regions where Albanians lived into one country, which in reality is nothing else besides copying the politics of Milosevic’s efforts to create the entity “Greater Serbia” on the regions of the former Yugoslavia.
In 1993, Thaci became a member of the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army), who according to BBC soon resorted to “the most successful guerrilla movement in modern times” and/or a terrorist organization that reveals to the world the “direct connection between Al Qaeda and Albanians”. Parallel with the foundation of the “rebel guerrillas”, Thaci (war name “Snake”) founded and organized the Drenica Group that soon rose as the dominant and best known criminal organization of the west-Balkans. It concerned itself with (and still does) weapons smuggling, heroin, cocaine and cigarettes, automobile theft, prostitution and other profitable jobs that are common for mafia groups. “Drenica” soon made connections with key organizations in Albania, the Czech Republic, and Macedonia, creating a large-scale criminal organization, which according to Can Karpat’s report, was sealed with a marriage between Thaci’s sister and Sejdij Bajrush, one of the most infamous leaders of the Albanian mafia.
One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter
The first terrorist act that was directly blamed on the current premier of independent Kosovo happened on May 25, 1993. This is when Thaci, together with Rafet Rama, Jakup Nuri, Sami Ljustku and Ilijaz Kadriju, attacked the Serbian police at the railway crossing “Glogovac”, about which the respected Jane’s Information Group reports. During the attack, two police officers were killed, and another five were injured.
In July 1997, the court in Pristina sentenced Thaci (in absence) to ten years in prison, because of which he, a members of the Drenica group hid in the forests. The legal prosecution of him was stopped in 1999 when Hashim was recognized as the political leader of the KLA.
Judging by newspaper reports, Thaci was not only unforgiving towards Kosovo Serbs, but towards mainstream Albanians as well. In June 1999, the New York Times published an article that accuses Hashim and two of his supporters for the murder of somebody that opposed Albanian nationalism. The author of the article Chris Hedges, at the time, interviewed Rifat Haxhijaj who lived with Thaci in Switzerland, who stated: “When the war started (against the Serbian authorities), everybody wanted to be the boss. To get an idea of the kind of battle we are talking about, we only have to mention the murder of the Albanian reporter Alij Uka, a man that showed patriotism when Albanian nationalism/separatism is concerned. However, at the same time, he was a very harsh criticiser of people that were at the head of separatist currents. Uka was killed in his apartment in Tirana, and according to the words of former KLA members, that act was committed by his roommate at the time – Hashim Thaci, in cooperation with the secret police that Albania happily placed “at the disposal of the rebel leaders”. The allegations were rejected by Thaci’s representative in Switzerland, Jasha Salih who said:
- These reports are incorrect. Neither Mr Thaci, nor anyone else in the KLA were not involved in these activities. Our only aim is independent Kosovo.
On the other hand there are the statements by Bujar Bukoshi, the former premier in Ibrahim Rogov’s exiled cabinet, who said in Hashim’s rise:
- Cadavers have never been an obstacle to Thaci’s career.
The inconvenient truth about Albanian ethnic cleansing
The massacre in the village Racak was by far the bloodiest incident that served as a prelude to “Kosovo’s war”. An alleged murder is in question, with 45 Albanian civilians whose death was presented to the West as the Serbian revenge for the actions taken by the KLA against Serbian security forces. “Yugoslavia” then dropped all allegations, claiming that its forces were not responsible for the crime. However the same coalition led by the USA that recognized Kosovo have not backed away from their allegations, so the crime will remain on the conscience of the Serbs.
To make the historical line even more interesting, Thaci himself shocked the press, and then radio Voice of Russia – who first published Hashim’s confession in March 2000. Hashim admitted that the KLA purposely demonised Serbia through its operations, provoking the military intervention of the West.
The Voice of Russia then cited Thaci who talked about a public secret, admitting that the KLA killed four police officers in the village Racak, with the intent of provoking action from the Serbian special forces. The Serbs did react, and the media immediately characterized it as a Serbian massacre of Albanian villagers, which was denied by Thaci himself, explaining that the bodies of KLA members were later found, which was later additionally analysed in great detail by the media.
Thaci talked about the idea of “Greater Albania” until 1998, when Albania met with the “pyramid scheme” which led to mass looting, which together with the war, homogenized the population in Kosovo. This caused Hashim to change to rhetoric, and start talking about the idea of independence for the region.
From a wanted terrorist to a loved premier
The KLA was on the list of the 100 most wanted and dangerous terrorist organizations in the world until 1998, when the US administration together with Bill Clinton, changed course and decided to support the “guerrillas”, by inaugurating Thaci as the “spokesperson” for Albanian interests in Kosovo.
This course was followed by George W. Bush, despite the link between the KLA and Al Qaeda that is well known to the intelligence community.
Thaci and his party reject all of these allegations.

Robert Gelbard was a participant or observer in the following events:
February 1998: State Department Removes KLA from Terrorism List
Having already entered into its controversial relationship with the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), the US gives in to the organization’s demands that it be removed from the State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations. [Wall Street Journal (Europe), 11/1/2001] Near the end of that same month, Robert Gelbard, America’s special envoy to Bosnia, says the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) is an Islamic terrorist organization. [BBC, 6/28/1998] “We condemn very strongly terrorist actions in Kosovo. The UCK [KLA] is, without any question, a terrorist group.” [Agence France-Presse, 4/1999] “I know a terrorist when I see one and these men are terrorists,” he says. [BBC, 6/28/1998]

THE PROSECUTOR OF THE TRIBUNAL
AGAINST
RAMUSH HARADINAJ = British Mi6 Agent
IDRIZ BALAJ
LAHI BRAHIMAJ
INDICTMENT
The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, pursuant to her authority under Article 18 of the Statute of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, charges:
Ramush Haradinaj = working for the British Mi6
Idriz Balaj
Lahi Brahimaj
with CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY and VIOLATIONS OF THE LAWS OR CUSTOMS OF WAR, as set forth below:
THE ACCUSED
1. Ramush Haradinaj, also known as “Smajl”, was born on 3 July 1968 in Glodjane/Gllogjan* in the municipality of Decani/Deçan in the province of Kosovo.
2. At all times relevant to this indictment, Ramush Haradinaj was a commander in the Ushtria Çlirimtare e Kosovës (UÇK), otherwise known as the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). In this position, Ramush Haradinaj had overall command of the KLA forces in one of the KLA operational zones, called Dukagjin, in the western part of Kosovo bordering upon Albania and Montenegro. He was one of the most senior KLA leaders in Kosovo.
3. The Dukagjin Operational Zone encompassed the municipalities of Pec/Pejë, Decani/Deçan, Dakovica/Gjakovë, ……….
4. In spring 1998, the KLA was still a nascent organisation with no unified command structure. It had a General Staff Headquarters, but no identified supreme commander was giving orders. In the clan-based structure of the Kosovar society each operational area was therefore acting independently of the senior command authority and Ramush Haradinaj was one of the most independent zone commanders. Starting as a central figure in the area of his native village of Glodjane/Gllogjan and in the municipality of Decani/Deçan, Ramush Haradinaj extended in 1998 his control into the neighbouring municipalities of Pec/Pejë, Istok/Istog, Klina/Klinë and Dakovica/Gjakovë and as the Dukagjin Operational Zone commander had control of eight brigades and associated subordinate units………………………………

BIN LADEN AND THE US – TOGETHER AT LAST IN ALBANIA
The fact that the CIA armed Bin Laden to fight the Soviets, with the help of Pakistan and the Afghan drug trade, is old news, and makes for especially bitter reading now. For years, the Albanian operations of Bin Laden and other radical Muslim terrorists have also been widely reported. In this article I attempt to trace some of the major points in this huge and still widely unknown movement, from the events of today back as far as 1992, when the Islamic reawakening in Albania enhanced conditions for widespread terrorism.
One of the only good results of the bombing of Serbia was an increased awareness of Islamic terrorism in the Balkans. Albania was soon implicated. On 4 May 1999, the Washington Times reported, citing new reports from US intelligence and Jane’s Defense Review, that the town of Tropoje, Albania was a”common staging area” for Bin Laden’s and the KLA’s forces, and thus “a center for Islamic terrorists.” US intelligence also acknowledged that Bin Ladin’s al-Qaeda had “both trained and financially supported” the Albanians, and that the Kosovo border had been infiltrated by Bosnian, Chechen and Afghan mujaheedin, in “…crossings (which) originated in neighboring Albania and, according to the reports, included parties of up to 50 men.” The Jane’s report added that “…documents found last year on the body of a KLA member showed that he had escorted several volunteers into Kosovo, including more than a dozen Saudi Arabians. Each volunteer carried a passport identifying him as a Macedonian Albanian.”
A short time before this, a French national on trial for murder in Albania claimed to have been a member of bin Laden’s Albania cell, and had come “to recruit and arm fighters for Kosovo.”
The general anarchy and upheaval in Albania over the past decade has made it an easy target for wealthy Islamic terrorists: weapons can be acquired with ease; high unemployment makes for high recruitment; and all assistance, whether economic, military or “humanitarian,” is gladly accepted.
THE “HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATION” FRONT
Bin Laden’s kind offer of “humanitarian help” in 1994 has been used repeatedly ever since to fund terrorism in Albania. Many terrorists have posed as “humanitarian workers” since. Secret KLA training camps, which the CIA and SAS also used, were created in Northern Albania by Iran and other countries “using Islamic educational institutions and projects for the development of rural communities as a front.” Back in 1999, “a Saudi government audit acquired by US intelligence showed that 5 of Saudi Arabia’s top business executives ordered the National Commercial Bank (NCB), the kingdom’s largest, to transfer personal funds along with $3 million diverted from a Saudi pension fund to New York and London banks. The money was diverted into the accounts of Islamic charities, including Islamic Relief and Blessed Relief, that serve as fronts for Bin Laden.”…

Bin Laden opens European terror base in Albania
by Chris Stephen, Tirana
ALBANIAN authorities working with the Central Intelligence Agency claim to have uncovered a terrorist network operated by Osama Bin Laden, the Islamic fundamentalist accused of masterminding the African embassy bombings last August.
The network is said to have been set up to use Albania, a Muslim country, as a springboard for operations in Europe.
Fatos Klosi, the head of Shik, the Albanian intelligence service, said last week that Bin Laden had visited Albania himself.
His was one of several fundamentalist groups that had sent units to fight in Kosovo, the neighbouring Muslim province of Serbia, Klosi said. “Egyptians, Saudi Arabians, Algerians, Tunisians, Sudanese and Kuwaitis - they come from several different organisations.
Klosi said he believed terrorists had already infiltrated other parts of Europe from bases in Albania through a traffic in illegal migrants, who have been smuggled by speedboat across the Mediterranean to Italy in huge numbers. Interpol believes more than 100,000 blank Albanian passports were stolen in riots last year, providing ample opportunity for terrorists to acquire false papers.
Apparent confirmation of Bin Laden’s activities came earlier this month when Claude Kader, 27, a French national and self-confessed member of Bin Laden’s Albanian network, was jailed for the murder of a local translator. He claimed during his trial that he had visited Albania to recruit and arm fighters for Kosovo, and that four of his associates were still at large.
Bin Laden is believed to have established an operation in Albania in 1994 after telling the government that he was head of a wealthy Saudi humanitarian agency keen to help Europe ’s poorest nation.
“Terrorist organisations have taken advantage of peaceful Islamic charity and religious groups,” Klosi said.
Albanian sources say Sali Berisha, who was then president, had links with some groups that later proved to be extreme fundamentalists. The Socialist party, which took over after Berisha’s government was driven out by country-wide rioting, has since co-operated closely with American officials.
American raids on Bin Laden’s men in Albania have failed to halt their operations entirely, however. The Americans have withdrawn non-essential staff from the country and fortified their embassy, fearing it may be attacked.

Al Qaeda’s European attack route is the Balkans, new report claims
by Chrostopher Deliso in Skopje
A provocative report from the US Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare claims that the Balkans is about to heat up again as an Islamic terrorist base. This surpasses traditional nationalist rifts, claims author Yossef Boddansky, and is intended to increase al Qaeda infiltration. Thus the Balkan operations would be ultimately controlled by the Evil One, OBL.

Betim Kaziu, 21, who was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, was arrested in Kosovo last August by Kosovo police and extradited to the United States this week.
The Brooklyn Federal Court indictment claims that Kaziu made repeated attempts to buy weapons and tried to join a terrorist group linked to Al Qaeda.
Kaziu pleaded not guilty and was ordered to be held without bail. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
Following the arrest in Kosovo, the police found two Kalashnikovs, five hand grenades, 235 pieces of ammunition, a hunting rifle and a lap top computer at the house where Kaziu was residing in Prizren, Kosovo. Another person was arrested the same day

Bin Laden’s contacts in Albania and Bosnia
Belgrade, September 20, 2001 - Saudi billionaire Osama Bin Laden, suspected of having committed attacks at the U.S. on September 11, had a well developed network in the Balkans, mainly stationed in Albania, reports the Voice of America, cited by Free Serbia. Albanian prime minister Ilir Meta gave full support to the US campaign against terrorism, although people connected with the organisation of Osama Bin Laden had a safe haven in his country till now, states Voice of America.
Back in 1999 Americans cancelled the arrival of Defence Minster at the time William Cohen to Albania due to poor safety conditions, and in 1998 Albanian and American forces carried out a huge raid arresting over 100 people. Two of those were Bin Laden’s associates, and one was Egyptian.
The other country where Osama Bin Laden’s contacts were spotted is Bosnia-Herzegovina. During the war, several hundred Islamic fundamentalists arrived there, and some stayed. Three men were arrested in July under the suspicion of being connected with Osama Bin Laden. All three were Egyptians, and two had Bosnian passports.

Haradinaj case sent for partial retrial
21 July 2010 | 09:59 | Source: B92, Beta, Tanjug
THE HAGUE — The Hague Tribunal Appeals Chamber has made a decision for a partial retrial of former KLA leader Ramush Haradinaj war crimes trial.
The former ethnic Albanian member of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) was previously acquitted by the court.
Six of the original 37 counts of the indictment against him would be subject to a retrial, according to the chamber’s decision.
Although he said he would not travel to The Hague for today’s proceedings, Haradinaj was in the court room, said reports.
The previous verdict found Haradinaj and fellow KLA member Idriz Balaj not guilt of war crimes committed against Serbs, Roma and ethnic Albanian near Dečani in Kosovo, in 1998.
The third suspect, Lahi Brahimaj was convicted for abusing prisoners and sentenced to six years in prison.
The prosecution appealed the initial verdict that was given in April 2008, related to the crimes that the Kosovo Liberation Army allegedly committed against prisoners in the Jablanica prison camp.
The Hague prosecution stated in its appeal that there were threats and intimidation against witnesses in the initial trial, adding that the judges stated in the verdict that many witnesses said that they did not want to appear in court out of fear.

Country Reports on Terrorism 2009 — Albania (August 5, 2010)
Albania pledged to increase its contribution of troops to Afghanistan, froze bank accounts related to money laundering and terrorist financing, and aggressively worked with the United States and other countries to combat terrorism. Albania made progress in identifying vulnerabilities at land and sea borders, but the government and police forces continued to face challenges to enforce border security fully and to combat organized crime and corruption.
On January 14, 2008, the criminal trial began against Hamzeh Abu Rayyan, the suspected administrator for UNSCR 1267 Committee-designated terrorist financier Yassin al-Kadi, who is charged with hiding funds used to finance terrorism. This marked the first-ever criminal terrorist finance-related trial in Albania. The trial continued throughout 2009. A civil suit filed by al-Kadi to release his assets from seizure was dismissed and refiled several times. It was later reviewed by higher courts on matters of jurisdiction and statute of limitations. After being dismissed in June, it was filed again and is now pending trial in Tirana District Court. In addition, al-Kadi’s company, Loxhall, filed a lawsuit in April. It aimed to annul the Council of Ministers’ decision, as well as the two orders of the Ministry of Finance related to the administration of seized terrorism assets. This lawsuit was rejected in October, and is now pending appeal.

On October 12, a local imam, Artan Kristo, was arrested in Durrës. Kristo, also known as Muhamed Abdullah, was accused of “publicly inciting and propagating terrorist acts” for allegedly calling for jihad in the AlbSelafi.net online forum. Previously, Kristo was named as a suspect in the murder of the Secretary General of the Albanian Muslim Community, Salih Tivari, in January of 2003. The Durrës court decided to detain Kristo pending trial……………
