The Russian Navy has resumed efforts to revive its global maritime presence, Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov told President Vladimir Putin at a meeting in the Kremlin on 5 December.

The minister informed Putin that from this date the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) would dispatch a Joint Naval Task Force (JNTF) to the northeast Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. The expedition, which will last until 3 February 2008, is aimed at ensuring a naval presence “in the operationally key areas of the world oceans” and establishing conditions for secure Russian maritime navigation, Serdyukov told the president.

Three tactical exercises, involving combat ships and aircraft as well as missiles fired at naval and coastal targets, are being planned during the mission. The ships will pay 11 port calls to six countries during their 12,000 n mile journey.

Albania Debates Former Spy Files

Albania Debates Former Spy Files

26 11 2007 Tirana _ Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha has exchanged accusations with the opposition over a proposed bill that would disclose the identities of members of the communist-era secret police.

Berisha argued that the Socialist opposition – the successor to the communist era’s ruling Albanian Workers’ Party - was eager to see the bill go through only because of an ongoing power struggle inside the party.

“You want to fight each other, get rid of each other, but this law should not be used in that way,” Berisha said during the debate on Monday.

Berisha’s claim was an apparent reference to the difficulties the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, has been facing from his party’s old guard, whose roots go back to communist times.

The centre-right prime minister was angered by the Socialists’ tactics of delaying a debate on the 2008 budget by initiating the discussion on the former secret police files.

Albania is one of only a handful of formerly communist-ruled countries where such files have not yet been opened to the public.

The Socialists reacted to the prime minister’s statements by saying they were designed to set the parliamentary agenda.

During the 40-year rule of the dictator, Enver Hoxha, which ended with his death in 1985, the Albanian secret police, or Sigurimi, is believed to have been responsible for the imprisonment, torture and execution of thousands of real and imaginary opponents of the communist regime.

Georg Soros’s Gangster ICG and Foreign Affairs of European Parliament

Kosovo must be a crime state control by Georg Soros - CIA - ICG and his Organisation with EU Partners: Foreign Affairs of European Parliament

State-building in Kosovo
A two-track policy

As of this week, the diplomatic efforts of the troika (EU, USA, Russia) mediating between Kosovars and Serbia to reach an agreement between the two parties have to be declared unsuccessful and over. It is now only a question of time that Kosovo will declare independence unilaterally. The EU must now quickly find a common position on Kosovo and ensure a peaceful transition.
This is necessary for the people and states in the region and this is also important to give credibility to the EU’s foreign policy. As a consequence of the elections in Kosovo in November, and the clear mandate given to the pro-independence parties, the future government of Kosovo will more than likely take the decision to declare independence unilaterally, probably as soon as January. To help maintaining stability in the region the European Union has to following a two-track policy: on the one hand it has to assist the government of Kosovo in the state-building process and on the other hand, it has to reach out to Serbia.
Especially the state-building has to be closely coordinated with our partner the USA. Together the EU and the US have to develop a timetable for the transition period.

Myth No.9: Soros is a Philanthropist and Kosovo is Worthless to Western Powers

“A recent NewsBusters post about the role that leftwing billionaire George Soros played in undermining, quite literally, the economic future of an impoverished region of Romania, prompted a reader to send me a link to a profile of Soros published in 2003 which contains a tantalizing mention of Soros’ involvement with another mining project in Eastern Europe.

“Writing in the London magazine New Statesmen about Soros and his “Open Society Institute,” journalist Neil Clark wrote,

Soros deems a society “open” not if it respects human rights and basic freedoms, but if it is “open” for him and his associates to make money. And, indeed, Soros has made money in every country he has helped to prise “open”. In Kosovo, for example, he has invested $50m in an attempt to gain control of the Trepca mine complex, where there are vast reserves of gold, silver, lead and other minerals estimated to be worth in the region of $5bn. He thus copied a pattern he has deployed to great effect over the whole of eastern Europe: of advocating “shock therapy” and “economic reform”, then swooping in with his associates to buy valuable state assets at knock-down prices.

“[…] Writer Neil Clark’s piece doesn’t give details on how Soros pursued the Trepca mine, so I googled it and found the Trepca mine story is wrapped up within the NATO war in Kosovo against the Serbs.

A few months after the military occupation of Kosovo, the International Crisis Group (ICG) a think tank supported by Financier George Soros, issued a paper on “Trepca: Making Sense of the Labyrinth” which advised the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) “to take over the Trepca mining complex from the Serbs as quickly as possible and explained how this should be done”. And in August 2000, UNMIK Head Bernard Kouchner sent in heavily armed “peacekeepers” (”wearing surgical masks against toxic smoke”) to occupy the mine on the pretense that it was creating an environmental hazard through excessive air pollution.

Romanian communist officials accused of terrorism with “Carlos” Ilyich Ramirez Sanchez

Six former Romanian communist officials accused of terrorism

Romanian state researchers filed a criminal complaint with the country’s Supreme Court on November 7th against the former head of Romania’s Foreign Intelligence Centre and five former Romanian diplomats, alleging they committed acts of terrorism in the 1980s.

Historians at the state-run Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes in Romania (IICCR) accused General Nicolae Plesita and the former diplomats — Dan Mihoc, Constantin Ciobanu, Ion Constantin, Ioan Lupu and Ion Grecu — of attempting to murder Romanian opposition leaders in Western Europe in 1981.
………….
After the investigation, the IICCR included the following charges in their complaint against the five men: first degree manslaughter, attempted murder, kidnapping, physical and psychological abuse, violation of the laws regarding the use of explosive materials, and the use of forgery in official documents.

As part of a bid to eliminate the regime’s opponents, devices were disguised as letters and sent by mail to three well-known exiles — Paul Goma, Nicolae Penescu and Serban Orescu. Evidence also implicates the suspects in other terrorist attacks, toxic gas assaults, and the kidnapping and assassination of other people.

Plesita is already under investigation for hiring terrorist Ilyich Ramirez Sanchez, also known as Carlos the Jackal, to murder Romanian dissidents. Among other terrorist activities, Sanchez later carried out attacks against the Free Europe radio station in Munich.

Dan Mihoc, currently head of British Petroleum Romania, refuted the allegations against him and said that as a former Securitate officer deployed at the Romanian embassy in Bonn, he only participated in economic and technical or scientific activities.

The five Romanian diplomats were declared persona non grata by the West German government in 1984, ten days after former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu visited Bonn to meet with former Chancellor Helmuth Kohl.
