Former Bosnian Serb Leader Indicted

Former Bosnian Serb Leader Indicted

24 10 2007 Sarajevo_Mladen Ivanic, former Prime Minister of Republika Srpska and leader of the Party of Democratic Progress, PDP, has been indicted for abuse of office.

Ivanic and 12 others were issued with indictments by the Bosnia and Herzegovina State Prosecutor on Tuesday.

The case known as “Srpske Sume” (Srpska Forests) concerns illegal logging and theft of public forestry resources, the proceeds of which were used to finance Ivanic’s PDP pre-election campaign in 2001 and 2002, according to the prosecution.

The 13 Bosnian Serbs are accused of forming a joint criminal enterprise in 2001 when Ivanic, as the Serb Entity’s premier, made an out-of-court settlement with Trgokomerc, allowing the company to cut timber in the Ribnik area in lieu of moneys owed to it by the RS government and the Ribnik municipality.

The prosecution alleges that neither the RS government nor the municipality of Ribnik owed any money to Trgokomerc.

The money obtained from the illegal logging was allegedly used to finance the PDP’s pre-election campaign.

Together with Ivanic, the Prosecutor has charged Zoran Djeric, Miro Jurisic, Perica Bundalo, Rodoljub Trkulja, Stojko Blagojevic, Zoran Supeta, Dragisa Dragutinovic, Zdenko Sakana, Milorad Marjanovic, Mrko Rokvic, Radenko Borojevic and Novica Davidovic.
